Sharon Gill

Watercolour Tutor

Sharon Gill originates from The Isle Of Man. She left The Isle of Man to study Fashion Design and Illustration at Lancashire University where she specialised in knitwear, knitted textile design and illustration, winning design competitions for Patons Wools and Wolsey Tights along the way. After completing a Master’s Degree at Trent Polytechnic Sharon worked for knitwear companies who supply top High Street Stores. About these years she said “I used to like watching some of the current soaps and spotting my jumper designs being worn by the characters!”  The opportunity arose to retrain to teach and Sharon completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Loughborough University and has spent the last 15 years using her knowledge and skills to help and inspire others. Her teaching experience is across all age groups and artistic subjects, from Reception Primary Classes to Adult Education. She is currently teaching part time at her local College of Further Education, involved with young adults with additional learning needs. In the summer months she also helps with The Isle of Man” Beach Buddies” craft workshops, where small groups of children and carers create seaside inspired art using beach drift waste. She is an active member of The Isle of Man Art Society, exhibiting and selling her work, twice yearly at local exhibitions.

” Mr Showbiz ” is the finest way to describe this multi-talented entertainer. He has been a performer for almost five decades and has gained much acclaim for his keen sense of comedy/ musical ability. His list of television credits plus theatre / cabaret appearances throughout the world are impressive. From London to the famous “Strip” in Las Vegas, Jimmy has covered every aspect of entertainment. His career began in the “Swinging Sixties” when he was a member of various pop groups, working with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Ike & Tina Turner, and Elton John.  He will take you on a rollercoaster ride of music and mayhem … nobody does it like Jimmy!

Susan Deakin

Guest Speaker

Susan is a bilingual English/Spanish and an experienced Spanish Language and Drama teacher. She is also a Qigong Instructor. Her language teaching qualifications are from the Spanish Ministry of Education, she completed 3-year Foundation in Theatre studies in Spain and later in RADA. Susan runs drama workshops for adults for the local council, now online. Susan worked for many years for Weight Watchers Spain as Area Manager and Operations Director and is accustomed to giving presentations and training both in English and Spanish. Susan is also a Master Trainer in NLP/Coach and trained as a physical fitness instructor with the British School of Yoga. Susan also has qualified as a Qigong Instructor and leads group sessions mainly for the over 50's, and on Fred Olsen’s Balmoral which had a great following and feedback. She has worked in and have good knowledge of the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Barcelona and Valencia, but is happy to join cruises to most destinations. She has travelled for business and pleasure to Europe, South America and USA and is particularly interested in autumn/winter cruises from October - March, though happy to join anytime, anywhere! As a trainer, she believes workshops and lectures should be participative and motivating. Languages and Drama should be practical, fun and enriching. Her objective is to make sure participants learn and enjoy themselves, providing memorable sessions which will add to their holiday experience. Qigong sessions aim to promote positive energy, well-being and group harmony.

Paul Twose

Guest Speaker - General Science and History.

Paul's talks include a wide variety of fascinating subjects including Aviation, Weather Phenomena, Space, Optical Illusions, Hoaxes, Famous Mysteries and Explorers. With over 50 years’ experience in private and commercial aviation Paul has flown a wide range of aircraft from gliders and gyroplanes to Boeing 747 ‘Jumbo Jets’. In his spare time he volunteered as a Squadron Leader with the Air Training Corps commanding, what became, the largest Air Cadet Squadron in the country before promotion to Training Officer with Greater Manchester Wing. Drawing from his varied aviation background and his 30+ years’ experience in cadet training Paul is able to explain complex ideas in a way that is compelling and interesting. On retirement he received the Defence Council Letter of Appreciation for his services to the Corps. Paul lives with his wife, Jocelyn, in Cheshire.

Martin and Judy Holcombe

Bridge Hosts

Martin Holcombe is a retired police officer having served 30 years with the Somerset and Avon constabulary mainly within the Criminal Investigation Department. Since retiring, together with his wife Judy, they started and managed a bridge holiday company which they ran for 19 years, arranging hotels, flights and venues for thousands of guests on land based holidays in Europe and beyond, plus many cruises. Martin is a qualified bridge teacher through the English Bridge Union and is a member of EBUTA (The English bridge Union Teachers Association), he enjoys particularly the challenge of introducing new people to this exciting and wonderful game. All lessons/seminars include comprehensive notes with a PowerPoint presentation. He is a bridge Premier National Master having played and taught for many years. Martin lives with Judy in a small but idyllic village called Congresbury situated mid-way between Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare. As well as playing bridge his hobbies include calligraphy, gardening and reading, he has achieved two diplomas through CLAS. (The Calligraphy and Lettering arts society) he has exhibited pieces and accepts commissions. In March 2023 won an award and cash prize for a calligraphy piece he exhibited.

After spending 20 years as a Social Worker and gaining her Diploma in Social Work at Anglia Ruskin University, Sandie has now retired and is now able to enjoy her passions in life, crafting, travelling and meeting new people. She started crafting at the age of 10 with her mother teaching her to knit, which Sandie still enjoys doing. She previously owned her own business selling wool and crafting kits and taught these skills within the shop environment. Now retired Sandie is still crafting and sells at many craft Fayres. She attends craft groups where she learns and demonstrates new crafts as they come along. She likes to work with bright fabrics using different embellishments to suit the changing seasons and celebrations. She enjoys sharing her passion and skills with others and considers the environment and recycled products where possible.

His works include the official autobiography of the Kray twins, 'Our Story,' and Ronnie Kray’s 'My Story' about life in Broadmoor. Currently, he's on a countrywide tour discussing the Kray twins and reflecting on a lifetime in television with 'Ronnie, Reggie and Me - Sometimes It Won’t Be Alright on the Night!'

Lloyd Davies began his career as one half of the very successful comedy duo’s Rosser and Davies winning the Grand Final of Opportunity Knocks at the London Palladium.  After receiving the most votes ever cast for an act (93,0030) Lloyd has enjoyed a truly diverse and international career. He has toured America three times and performed his one man stand-up show throughout Europe and Asia. Lloyd has also supported the late Gene Pitney on a UK national theatre tour receiving critical acclaim from the press. He is in constant demand as an after-dinner speaker and comedian and works extensively in the cruise industry travelling the world. Television credits include The Michael Barrymore show , 3-2-1, Summertime Special, The Funny Side, It’s Wicked, Going live and was also a regular daytime TV performing topical comedy songs which he writes himself. Not only a performer, but also a wonderful comedy writer, having written and performed alongside the great Bob Monkhouse, Sir Ken Dodd, Jasper Carrott, Russ Abbot to name a few. A talented pianist and singer, Lloyd incorporates topical and self-penned witty songs into his act. Lloyd is original, topical, clever and, above all, unpredictable!

ORCA

ORCA is one of the UK’s leading whale and dolphin conservation charities, dedicated to the protection of whales, dolphins and porpoises around the world. Ocean Conservationists will be showcasing the incredible diversity of wildlife that can be spotted from the deck, helping everyone learn more about the marine environment around them whilst collecting vital data about whales, dolphins and porpoises to contribute to their protection. Whilst on board, the team will be delivering activities to help guests learn more about these amazing animals as well as the threats they face, including the Ambassador & ORCA pledge and the first ever cruise "Anti-whaling" campaign.

**What to expect on this sailing... **The Bay of Biscay is an incredibly productive area for various whales, dolphins and porpoises. The area is particularly important for elusive beaked whales and migrating fin whales.This is also an important area to monitor for the impacts of ship strikes - one of the biggest threats to large whales in the area. This voyage highlights the importance of the “anti-captivity pledge” and gives guests the opportunity to spot cetaceans wild and free rather than in captive facilities in the Canary Islands.

Sunshine is always a great cure for the winter blues, but whales and dolphins work even better and this itinerary combines both. Crossing the Bay of Biscay, our Ocean Conservationists will be collecting important winter data in this hotspot to help us better understand the migrations of whales and dolphins through this incredible hotspot.

After reaching the Canary Islands, we’ll have the chance to show how important it is to enjoy whales and dolphins in the wild where they belong, with Ambassador’s anti-captivity pledge being incredibly important in an area with a number of captive marine mammals. The Canaries and Madeira are also interesting locations for monitoring resident pods of dolphins, sperm whales and beaked whales.

Visiting Cape Verde in the winter will help us complement other datasets from the region, which are generally from the summer months.

We hope guests will join ORCA and Ambassador in choosing to see these animals only in the wild.

I have been on two around the British isles cruises and the Christmas and new year cruise last year. However, with regard to your question relating to mini cruises - in June of last year I did the Sea-cation cruise from Bristol to Liverpool via Dublin. This was a 3 night cruise and was fantastic, good food, good entertainment and extremely weill organized. I went with my daughter and my friend and her daughter, the booking team did everything to match our needs.

It was very easy to book the Cruise online, and I did not need to talk to Customer Services (as I had too when booking a P&O Cruise earlier in the year). After booking, you need to set up a 'portal' Online (again, very easy) and there you can add things like drinks packages, parking, excursions from ports, wine or chocolate waiting for you in your cabin etc. All very easy. We'll done, Ambassador.

Have booked with them in May for the Norwegian cruise which we thoroughly enjoyed. At the time nothing was too much trouble Have booked a 60th surprise birthday mini cruise for my partner. However the embarkation time is the latest time in the afternoon at 17.30 I understand it’s to do with the entrance of where you dock and position of cabin but I did call them to see if we could embark early or even move cabin or have an upgrade No luck. Not accommodating at all.
