ORCASolar Eclipse Cruise
This will be a once-in-a-lifetime expedition — a truly rare astronomical event where three extraordinary phenomena could unfold during a single journey.
At the heart of the cruise is the Total Solar Eclipse, one of nature’s most breathtaking and emotional spectacles. As daylight fades and the Sun’s corona appears, you’ll witness one of the most dramatic sights our planet has to offer — from the unique vantage point of Greenland’s remote Arctic skies.
But what makes this journey even more extraordinary is the timing.
We’ll be sailing during the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, one of the best meteor showers of the year, where up to 120 shooting stars per hour can streak across the sky under perfect conditions. And incredibly, because the eclipse darkens the sky during the day, there’s even the rare possibility of seeing shooting stars in daylight — something very few people on Earth have ever experienced.
And there’s more…
With our Arctic location, there is also a genuine chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis during the later stages of the trip — meaning this voyage could offer the remarkable possibility of witnessing a Total Solar Eclipse, Shooting Stars, and the Northern Lights all within a single expedition.
Astronomically speaking, opportunities like this are exceptionally rare.
Three of nature’s most spectacular celestial events…
One unforgettable journey…
A true bucket-list adventure unlike anything else.
CRUISE HIGHLIGHTS
Witness the Solar Eclipse
From the open top deck of Ambition, experience the Moon gradually moving across the Sun, dimming the Arctic daylight and casting a surreal twilight over the sea. As totality approaches, the Sun’s brilliant corona emerges, a luminous crown of plasma glowing against the darkened sky. The horizon stretches endlessly around you, creating a breathtaking 360? panorama where every moment of this rare celestial alignment can be savoured in complete clarity.
Perseid Meteor Shower
During the middle of our cruise, clear night skies will be bright due to persistent twilight, but with meteor activity at a high, we’re planning on stepping out for a twilight fireball watch. Although infrequent, these bright meteor events can happen. Just imagine seeing a bright meteor against a deep blue sky! This was certainly the case in 1980 when a strong display of many fireballs was seen at dawn. Another spectacular display of natural wonder to complement the eclipse experience.
Aurora Hunting
In the latter part of the cruise, we’ll be heading further south giving us darker skies in which we may see the Aurora Borealis. It’s early in the season, but a fortuitous outburst from the Sun could kick off a display. In addition, an aurora with the Sun not too far below the horizon can turn an unusual colour due to the rarely observed phenomenon of resonant scattering. Will we get lucky? Who knows, but at least we’ll have a front row seat to one of the most extraordinary sky spectacles on Earth.
