Sustainable Efforts Uncovered

Ambassador is on a mission to be amongst the most sustainable cruise lines in the business. New to the market, we have the advantage of committing to this pledge from the offset and building our reputation upon such values.

When reviewing refit plans for our first lady of the sea, it was important for Ambassador to align with ship management company, BSM regarding Environmental Social Governance (ESG). We invested in this upgrade to ensure Ambience complies with the highest emissions standards worldwide (IMO Tier 3) and she is now in the top 10%-15% of environmentally sustainable ships allowing her access to some of Europe’s most untouched corners including the breath-taking Norwegian World Heritage fjords.

We wanted to take the opportunity to share with you, our customers and fellow ambassadors, the efforts that are being made to ensure that we can operate as ocean-friendly and globally conscious as possible.  

To comply with the latest requirements, a company like ours must reduce NOx emissions by around 70%. We reduced Ambience’s emissions by 95% from her first sailing in April 2022. The main modifications from our upgrade have resulted in an overall 7% fuel reduction, 80% less sulphur oxide (SOx) emissions, and an annual CO2 emission reduction of 5.358 tons – significantly relieving the impact we leave on our oceans.

So, how does this happen? NOx emissions are reduced through the installation of systems that convert harmful gases into inert nitrogen and water vapour. This means that we can cruise to pristine places like the Norwegian Heritage Fjords and preserve their beauty. In fact, we are within the top 10-15% of cruise liners that can access such places.

To comply with forthcoming EEXI Regulations (Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index), Ambience will implement shaft power limitation - limiting the power by 25%. The Ambience ship traditionally operated at 18.5 knots, but this has changed to 16.25 knots average speed. As well as advanced sewage installations, all our food pulpers have been replaced by “Bio Digesters” to break down food waste into water and heat. We have also installed bottle washers onboard with our own bottling plant for both still & sparkling water – ensuring all our guests are feeling both responsible and hydrated.

As well as protecting our oceans through the latest ship technology, we also want to support current initiatives and organisations that are doing such a stellar job already. ORCA Ocean Conservationists have dedicated their lives to inspiring people to appreciate the diverse wildlife found in our oceans, which is why Ambassador has partnered with ORCA and invited two conservationists on board Ambience in 2022 in 2023. This partnership enables the collection of important scientific data in key areas, as well as the education of guests on board. Together, ORCA and Ambassador will deliver unforgettable wildlife experiences and spread the awareness and appreciation of our beautiful and diverse ocean inhabitants.

Today we are seeing more and more businesses turn paperless to limit wastage and maximise digital innovation. Ambassador Cruise Line is no exception. Here’s what can be expected on board and throughout your Ambassador journey.

We are currently developing our onboard Ambassador app. This will allow guests to:

  • View their onboard account
  • Read the daily programme
  • Book Destination Experiences
  • View restaurant and bar menus
  • Purchase Wi-Fi packages
  • View our Ship Tracker
  • Provide feedback on onboard services (restaurants, entertainment etc.)

We have 45 new digitally interactive screens; 22 of which will also be powered by our app, allowing guests to view itinerary information, the entertainment timetable, dining and bar menus and the ship tracker. The other 23 screens will be used for marketing onboard promotions, entertainment etc.

To help guests navigate their way around paper map free, we have our Cabin Finder. This savvy feature allows guests to enter a cabin number and see the route from that very screen to their cabin as displayed on our deck plan.

When the happy sailing day arrives, guests can travel to their cruise with peace of mind that they have checked in all their details digitally via the My Ambassador Sailing platform. This makes us a ticketless cruise line and saves everybody time and admin when we welcome our fellow Ambassadors on board their next journey of discovery.
