A journey Beyond the Aurora
Experience more than the Northern Lights
Set sail with Ambassador Cruise Line on a voyage that goes far beyond chasing the Aurora Borealis. Our Northern Lights and Arctic sailings are crafted to showcase the very best of this remarkable region — from snow-dusted fjords and wildlife-rich waters to authentic encounters with Sami culture. And yes, you’ll have every chance to witness the mesmerising dance of the Northern Lights — but that’s just the beginning.
Our Northern Lights and Arctic sailings usually fall into two periods each season: October/November and February/March. The best time to see the Northern Lights is typically September through to April, so this isn’t a coincidence. However, whether you set sail in the latter end of the year or the earlier part of the next can have a large impact on your Arctic cruise experience. Understanding the differences is key to selecting the itinerary best suited to your preferences.
Arctic cruises in October/November
Best for: Viewing beautiful scenery and experiencing Arctic culture
Our October/November Northern Lights sailings fall perfectly within the Arctic’s polar night. During this period, also known as dark winter, the sky adopts vivid pastel shades, creating a scenic twilight. Daylight hours are reduced and snowfall is unlikely, resulting in dark, clear skies that are perfect for spotting the aurora.

Arctic cruises in February/March
Best for: A range of winter activities with a true ‘winter wonderland’ feel
By February/March, the conditions in the Arctic Circle have evolved into what is known as light winter: days lengthen rapidly, resulting in long hours of crisp skies. With a high chance of snow, these sailings often benefit from a fresh white landscape that acts as the perfect base for a range of winter activities. And, of course, there’s still a good possibility of spotting the aurora.
At Ambassador, we believe in affordable quality and the warmest welcome at sea. Our no-fly Arctic adventures depart conveniently from the UK, letting you discover the beauty of Norway, Iceland and the Arctic Circle without the hassle of flying. You’ll enjoy authentic experiences, outstanding cuisine, amazing entertainment, and a true sense of community aboard our smaller, classic ships.
