Nestled in the heart of Northern Europe, Copenhagen is a shining example of the region’s timeless beauty and modern spirit. The Danish capital offers a blend of historic charm and cutting-edge design, making it a captivating place to make lasting memories, even if you only have a day. From colourful canals and grand churches to delicious cuisine and design museums, Copenhagen is brimming with experiences that delight every step of the way. Whether you're strolling through gardens or sampling local delicacies, this one-day itinerary captures the city’s unique spirit and invites you to soak it all in.

What to do in a morning

Begin your day at Nyhavn, Copenhagen’s iconic waterfront district. As the day begins, the area comes to life with locals and tourists alike enjoying breakfast and coffee at the cosy cafés that dot the promenade. Marvel at the picturesque scene of colourful 17th-century townhouses lining the canal as you enjoy a classic Danish breakfast of freshly baked pastries, artisanal bread, creamy cheeses and aromatic coffee. Afterwards, make your way to Frederik’s Church, also known as the Marble Church.

Spend some time marvelling at its magnificent copperclad dome, which rises to a height of 46 metres and has a diameter of 31 metres. Admire the intricate marble columns, ornate altarpieces and beautiful frescoes. Then take a leisurely stroll along Strøget, a pretty pedestrian-friendly thoroughfare. Here you can admire street performers, browse boutiques and view landmarks such as the Stork Fountain.

Here you will also find exotic plants from around the world, including tropical species housed in the greenhouse.

After your visit, take a scenic walk along the waterfront to see the renowned Little Mermaid statue. Erected in 1913, the statue has a rich history spanning over a century. It was commissioned by brewer Carl Jacobsen as a gift to the city and has since become an enduring symbol of Copenhagen’s artistic and cultural heritage. Finally, round off the day with a visit to the Danish Museum of Art & Design.
