Picture this. You draw the curtain and the sea is glassy and blue. A bell rings softly somewhere on deck. The captain eases us toward a honey-stone harbour as the first cafés set out their chairs. This is the Mediterranean at its most generous, and it’s yours to enjoy from sunrise to starlight at a pace that suits you.
Whether you are sailing our Classical Mediterranean or Iberian Sunsets & Mediterranean Mornings itineraries, here is how to shape a perfect day that blends easy exploring, good food and time to simply look.
Mornings in the Med reward early risers. On days we arrive into Valletta, step out on deck with a warm drink and watch the bastions glow as the sun lifts. Cameras love this light, but even a phone captures the moment beautifully. In Dubrovnik, the old city slips into view like a postcard. Take ten quiet minutes before breakfast to let it sink in.
Prefer a little guidance? Choose a relaxed destination experience that covers the highlights without rushing, then enjoy free time for a gentle amble or a sit-down coffee.

Such a great Mediterranean Cruise
"Such a great time. A very memorable and enjoyable cruise. The itinerary was perfect. The food was really good, beautifully presented with a wide choice of menu options. There was always something to suit my every meal. The staff are always attentive and do their utmost to make the holiday enjoyable. We love this cruise line and it is our no. 1 choice for cruising. We have travelled with them so many times it really does feel like home from home!"

By mid-morning, markets across the Med are in full swing. In Barcelona, head for a central market for ripe fruit, small plates and people-watching. Choose one or two stalls, not ten. Share a tasting plate, sip water, and rest for a few minutes between stops.

As afternoon softens, cities take on a calm that suits unhurried exploring. In Lisbon, plan your day so you reach a viewpoint around blue hour, when the sky deepens and lights begin to sparkle.
If you prefer not to navigate, pick a destination experience that times these views for you, with transfers included and a host who knows the best spots for photos and pauses.

Return to the ship as the harbour lights reflect on the water. Freshen up, enjoy an unrushed dinner, then take a short stroll on deck. Most nights feature live music in a lounge or a show in the theatre. It’s a lovely way to round off your day, especially after a long sail-in and a little exploring ashore.
A Fabulous 17 night Mediterranean Cruise
"From start to finish everything was very well organised, things ran very smoothly embarkation & disembarkation was no problem. Everything was explained clearly to passengers all through the cruise. The ship was kept beautifully clean throughout, day and night crew were cleaning. The crew were absolutely amazing, very professional and friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them.
Our restaurant waiters Christof & Kadek made our dining experience, we laughed with them every night they were professional friendly and excellent at their job. The food was excellent in the Buckingham restaurant, Borough Market and the Saffron Indian Restaurant, we could not fault anything. The places we visited on the cruise were lovely and have given us the taste for more!
We will keep on recommending Ambassador to all our family and friends, it was a fabulous cruise and a wonderful experience."

Here is a simple template you can repeat in any port:

Want a route that fits your sailing? Browse these itineraries and pick the ports that speak to you.
Is blue hour worth waiting for?
Yes. It is the most flattering light for city skylines and harbour views, and it usually coincides with cooler temperatures.
How much walking is involved?
You can see a lot with short, level walks. Choose destination experiences with coach transfers and hosts if you prefer to minimise distances.
What should I wear from morning to evening?
Breathable layers, supportive shoes and a light cover-up for churches or breezy decks. Add a small day bag for water, tickets and a camera.
