ORCASolar Eclipse Cruise

This will be a once-in-a-lifetime expedition — a truly rare astronomical event where three extraordinary phenomena could unfold during a single journey.

At the heart of the cruise is the Total Solar Eclipse, one of nature’s most breathtaking and emotional spectacles. As daylight fades and the Sun’s corona appears, you’ll witness one of the most dramatic sights our planet has to offer — from the unique vantage point of Greenland’s remote Arctic skies.

But what makes this journey even more extraordinary is the timing.

We’ll be sailing during the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, one of the best meteor showers of the year, where up to 120 shooting stars per hour can streak across the sky. And incredibly, because the eclipse darkens the sky during the day, there’s even the rare possibility of seeing shooting stars in daylight — something very few people on Earth have ever experienced.

And there’s more…

With our Arctic location and dark skies in Greenland, there is also a genuine chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis during the trip — meaning this voyage could offer the remarkable possibility of witnessing a Total Solar Eclipse, Shooting Stars, and the Northern Lights all within a single expedition.

Astronomically speaking, opportunities like this are exceptionally rare.

Three of nature’s most spectacular celestial events…

One unforgettable journey…

A true bucket-list adventure unlike anything else.

CRUISE HIGHLIGHTS

Witness the Solar Eclipse
From the open top deck of Ambition, experience the Moon gradually moving across the Sun, dimming the Arctic daylight and casting a surreal twilight over the sea. As totality approaches, the Sun’s brilliant corona emerges, a luminous crown of plasma glowing against the darkened sky. The horizon stretches endlessly around you, creating a breathtaking 360? panorama where every moment of this rare celestial alignment can be savoured in complete clarity.

Perseid Meteor Shower
August skies over East Greenland offer the best possibility of glimpsing the sparkling trails of the Perseid meteor shower. As streaks of light shoot across the Arctic heavens, each meteor provides a fleeting reminder of the vastness of space. Far from artificial light, the ship’s decks offer an exceptional vantage point to watch these meteors arc across the night sky, complementing the eclipse experience with another spectacular display of natural wonder.

Aurora During Totality
During totality, the sudden darkness may reveal a fleeting display of the Aurora Borealis dancing along the Arctic horizon. Swirls of green, pink and purple can shimmer across the sky, creating a magical counterpoint to the eclipsed Sun. Witnessing this rare combination — the Sun’s corona above and auroral light around you — transforms the deck into a front row seat to one of the most extraordinary sky spectacles on Earth.

***Please note viewing of the solar eclipse, Perseid meteor shower and Aurora cannot be guaranteed and may be subject to local weather and atmospheric conditions.

Peter Truman

Guest Speaker

Peter is a travel industry stalwart and has pioneered astronomy related tourism from the 1990’s onwards and operated exclusive charter flights from around the UK to view the Comet Hale Bopp in a very dark pollution free atmosphere. He worked closely with famous Astronomer, Sir Patrick Moore operating flights and longer excursions to view the Northern lights which operate to this day. In 1999 Peter was inspired to operate the first Eclipse adventure on a special charter flight from Leeds Bradford to intercept the Eclipse above the English Channel. Due to exceptionally high cloud on the day they were one of only 2 other aircraft allowed above the clouds by air traffic control because “we had done our homework and fully planned the flight”. Since then he has arranged six other Total Solar eclipses starting with taking over 1500 guests to Turkey in 2006, China in 2009, The Norwegian Sea in 2015, USA in 2017, Chile in 2019 and the USA in 2024. Peter is proud to confirm that on every occasion and sometimes very much against the odds they have always enjoyed Totality in clear skies, a feat achieved by the skill of my good friend and BBC Sky at Night presenter Pete Lawrence, who joins us on this sailing, and his skill in reading the ever changing weather patterns and following his advice. I am honoured and pleased that I now have many loyal fellow Eclipse chasers who join me and who have become firm friends. I look forward to joining another Eclipse adventure.
