What inspired Title Role to create The Cruise: Fun-Loving Brits at Sea?
At Title Role, we love creating programmes that transport people to new places. Travel shows help viewers escape, find inspiration and, most importantly, smile. Over the years, we’ve explored all-inclusive resorts and the inner workings of airlines and cruise companies.
With The Cruise: Fun-Loving Brits at Sea, we wanted to bring the wonderful world of cruising to audiences at home – especially those who may not have considered a cruise before. Ambassador Cruise Line offered the perfect setting, with so many incredible things to do on board and a host of fascinating destinations close to home. It felt like the right time to share the magic of cruising with everyone.
How did you decide on following everyday travellers rather than seasoned cruise experts?
The cast are the real stars of a show like this, and it’s a joy to see the adventure unfold through their eyes. We wanted viewers to experience cruising through people they could relate to – from first-time cruisers to those with more experience.
Each brings something different to the table. While seasoned travellers offer handy tips, watching new cruisers fall in love with the experience is truly heartwarming. Their excitement is palpable and wonderfully infectious. Being able to give everyday people an “adventure of a lifetime” is what this show is all about – celebrating the friends, neighbours and family members we can all see a little of ourselves in.
What makes this series different from other travel or cruise shows on TV?
It’s the people, once again, who make this series so special. With The Cruise: Fun-Loving Brits at Sea, we’re giving a voice to everyday holidaymakers and making cruising feel accessible and inviting.
The warmth our cast brings to the screen – combined with the generosity and good humour of the ship’s crew, tour guides, entertainers, spa teams, restaurant staff and local hosts – gives the show its enormous heart.
It’s also a chance for Ambassador Cruise Line to showcase everything they have to offer, through a fun, uplifting lens that highlights the joy of travel and the connections made at sea.
How do you think the show captures the spirit of British holidaymakers?
Our cast were chosen from all over the country and each brings their own unique perspective on what it means to be a British holidaymaker. But what unites them – and the audience – is their willingness to dive headfirst into adventure.
We Brits are known for making the most of any situation, and that shines through in the series. Whether it’s a craft class, walking tour, cocktail tasting, fine dining experience, or spa day, there’s a “have-a-go” spirit that captures the joy of discovery. Rain or shine, it’s about finding fun wherever you are – and that’s exactly what this series celebrates.
Working with Ambassador
Why did you choose Ambassador Cruise Line as your partner for the series?
We’d wanted to work with Ambassador for a couple of years, so when the stars aligned and the series was commissioned, we were thrilled. There’s something so warm and “can-do” about the Ambassador team – they’ve made the whole production a dream.
We also loved that Ambassador offers adventures sailing direct from the UK, with smaller, more intimate ships. That scale creates a sense of community that works perfectly for the kind of stories we wanted to tell.
What stood out to you about Ambience and Ambition as filming locations?
Each ship has its own personality and charm. Ambience and Ambition have different layouts and features, but both share a brilliant, friendly team who always go above and beyond.
The crew were fantastic with both our production team and their guests – balancing filming with their usual duties seamlessly. The onboard facilities and destination experiences provided a rich backdrop for the show, helping us capture the excitement and atmosphere of life at sea.
It was a joy to film on ships that genuinely embody “The Warmest Welcome at Sea.”
