ORCA
ORCA is one of the UK’s leading whale and dolphin conservation charities, dedicated to the protection of whales, dolphins and porpoises around the world. Ocean Conservationists will be showcasing the incredible diversity of wildlife that can be spotted from the deck, helping everyone learn more about the marine environment around them whilst collecting vital data about whales, dolphins and porpoises to contribute to their protection. Whilst on board, the team will be delivering activities to help guests learn more about these amazing animals as well as the threats they face, including the Ambassador & ORCA pledge and the first ever cruise "Anti-whaling" campaign.
What to expect on this sailing... This entire route provides an abundance of cetacean activity! From monitoring minke whales and fin whales through the Irish sea and resident populations of bottlenose dolphins around the British Isles. The North Sea then provides an excellent monitoring opportunity in a marine protected area important for harbour porpoises.
Often people think about whales and dolphins as being exotic animals seen on the other side of the world, but 25 species have actually be spotted in UK waters, and that’s something we love to celebrate! We have an incredible diversity of whales, dolphins and porpoises right on our doorstep, including “slinky” minke whales and the largest bottlenose dolphins in the world. We may even be lucky enough to spot orcas as they visit during the summer months! Not only are we excited for this itinerary to show guests these incredible animals first-hand, but during our time onboard we will also be collecting vital data that will help to keep them safe. This itinerary travels through a number of protected areas so the sightings we record will play a direct role in helping monitoring the whales and dolphins around our coast.
