Bodmin’s Heritage Railway
Fowey

by coach, train & on foot
Discover the excitement and nostalgia with a journey back in time on the Bodmin Railway.
Having made your way ashore using the ship’s tenders, a short walk including some steps will bring you to the coach parking area. Having embarked your coach, relax and enjoy the passing scenery during the drive to Bodmin General Station.
Your memorable experience begins even before you embark the train as Bodmin General Station features all the old facilities and atmosphere from days gone by. Posters depict seaside resorts, advertisements tempt the purchase of household products, while the original ticket booking hall is truly reminiscent of the past.
Take in the charm of the station before you embark for your rail journey, a leisurely 13-mile round trip through the scenic Cornish countryside. Along the way, ponder the history of the rail line, which traces its roots to the Bodmin & Wadebridge Railway that opened in 1834 as a means to transport minerals and agricultural sea sand. Reporting with great fanfare, the West Briton stated, ‘A more grand and imposing sight was never, perhaps, witnessed in the country.’ The paper’s enthusiasm was certainly understandable, as the Bodmin & Wadebridge was the first steam-powered railway in Cornwall and one of the first passenger-carrying steam trains in Britain.
Returning to Bodmin General Station, you will rejoin your coach for the return drive to Fowey, taking you along some narrow, country roads to enjoy the Cornish scenery.
