Rogie Falls Hike

As a truly authentic representation of the beauty of the Scottish Highlands, the Rogie Falls Hike is bound to delight nature lovers. Situated close to the village of Contin, Rogie Falls refers to several waterfalls that form part of the Black Water River. The stunning Scottish scenery will provide the most magnificent photo opportunities and your guide will be on hand to explain more about the variety of surrounding wildlife and woodland.

An approximately 50-minute drive from Invergordon will take you to the starting point for your hike to Rogie Falls. At the beginning, the pathway is surrounded by pine and silver birch. Silver birch is often used in Scotland as timber for houses, furniture, gates and fences, but these particular trees stand tall and strong, protected by the forest’s conservation status.

Follow the walk through the pine and silver birch area and amble past boulders and moss to reach the riverbank. Here, you will have the opportunity to see the magnificent Rogie Falls from Silverbridge suspension bridge. Providing the best views of the falls, the bridge was recently rebuilt by the Highland Council to remain in-keeping with the character of this beautiful area. Look out for the man-made fish ladder that was built to help salmon reach the top of the falls when the water level is particularly low. At certain times of the year, you may be able to see the salmon leaping up the falls to spawn in the upper parts of the river. You may also be lucky enough to see the magnificent array of birdlife that frequent the river, alongside the occasional pine marten, red squirrel, and wildcat.

Having taken in views of the river and falls at their best angles, the scenic walk back to the coach will begin with more views of the bubbling water and splendid woodlands. You will then rejoin your coach for the journey back to Invergordon.
