North Shetland & Eshaness Cliffs
Lerwick, Shetland Isles

by coach & on foot
This is a truly spectacular experience taking you through picturesque villages, unforgettable landscapes and some of the most rugged and beautiful coastal scenery anywhere in the UK.
Departing Lerwick, you will commence your journey towards Northmavine, situated on the northwest of the mainland of Shetland. Your journey will cross Mavis Grind, the narrowest point of Shetland. At only 33m (108ft) wide, this strip of land (called an isthmus) separates the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the North Sea to the east.
A stop will be made to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee before rejoining your coach for the onward journey to Eshaness (or Esha Ness) Lighthouse. Built in 1929 by David and Charles Stevenson, close relatives of the author Robert Louis Stevenson, this was the last of the Stevenson lighthouses to be built in Shetland.
The ferocity of the Atlantic waves have contributed to the spectacular geological formations found here, which include sea stacks, natural arches, deep clefts and caves. The cliffs are also home to several varieties of seabirds. In terms of scenery and geological form, few places in Shetland — or perhaps even Britain — rival Eshaness.
After rejoining your coach, sit back and relax during the return drive to Lerwick.
