Mousa Scenic Cruise

This unique and adventurous experience begins with a coach journey south from Lerwick to the charming village of Sandwick. Here, you will board the Mousa ferry for an approximately one-hour scenic cruise around the serene and beautiful island of Mousa, home to a renowned Iron Age Broch. As you glide along, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the Mousa Broch — an ancient stone ‘castle’ that has stood for over 2,000 years and rises 13m (43ft) above the island’s rugged landscape.

As you sail, keep an eye out for harbour porpoises and other marine mammals that call these waters home. Mousa is a haven for seals, both Common and Grey, which can often be seen lounging around the island's shallow pools. If you're lucky, you might spot a curious otter darting along the shoreline.

The island is also famous for its thriving seabird colonies, including hundreds of Arctic Terns, Arctic Skuas, and their larger relatives, the Great Skua. These agile birds are known to fly very close to the boat, giving you a real up-close look. The Arctic Tern is a remarkable creature, capable of flying the equivalent of a trip to the moon during its lifetime, which can span up to 25 years.

After disembarking from the ferry, you’ll rejoin your coach for the return drive to Lerwick, with your guide sharing more fascinating stories about the islands and pointing out Shetland’s famous ponies along the way.
