Plymouth on Foot
  • Sustainable Experience

on foot

Plymouth, located at the western edge of Devon, is a city shaped by its rich maritime heritage. As your walking experience begins, you’ll cross the Hoe, an historic grassy ridge offering fantastic views of Plymouth Sound and Drake Island. It was here that Sir Francis Drake famously played bowls before confronting the Spanish Armada.

Your experience continues as you walk to the Barbican, the historic waterfront area from which the Pilgrim Fathers departed aboard the Mayflower in 1620 on their journey to America, and where James Cook began his Pacific voyage. The Mayflower Steps Memorial marks this significant site, which holds particular meaning for many American visitors.

Your walk concludes at the Theatre Royal, after which you may return to the ship or explore the city further at your leisure.
