Corfe Castle & Swanage Railway

This experience combines a visit to the charming village of Corfe Castle with a train ride on the famous Swanage Railway.

Departing from the port, relax and enjoy the passing scenery during an approximately 75-minutes journey to the village of Corfe Castle, taking you through Weymouth and the delightfully distinctive Dorset countryside.

Arriving at Corfe Castle, enjoy approximately one-hour of free time to explore this charming village, located at the foot of a hill, upon which perches the ruins of Corfe Castle. The castle was built shortly after the Norman conquest of 1066, although it is likely to have been a fortified site long before this. You may wish to take a stroll, purchase some refreshments or browse the shops for a souvenir of your visit.

Following this, you will make your way to Corfe Castle station to board a lovingly restored train for a ride on the scenic Swanage Railway. Your journey to Swanage will take approximately 20-minutes, taking you through the beautiful Purbeck countryside, providing you with an appreciation of the rich history, abundant wildlife and fascinating geology of the area. You can see how it inspired famous authors such as Enid Blyton and Thomas Hardy.

Your train adventure ends in Swanage, a charming Victorian sandy beach resort on the edge of a beautiful bay. Here you will have approximately one-hour of free time. You may choose to take a stroll along the promenade, visit the pier, purchase some refreshments, explore the old town streets or if you are brave enough, dip your toe in the water.

Rejoining your coach, enjoy more of the Dorset countryside as you journey to your last stop at Lulworth Cove. Here you will have a short time to take a short walk to enjoy views of the natural horseshoe-shaped harbour, or perhaps pay a quick visit to the Lulworth Cove Heritage Centre.

All that remains is to reflect on all that you have experienced during the return drive to Portland.
