Coastal Walk to Durdle Door & Lulworth Cove

This delightful walk will take you along the stunning Jurassic Coast, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, allowing you to take in views of two of the most famous features on the Dorset Coast: the rock arch known as Durdle Door; and Lulworth Cove, a sheltered haven for small boats.

Departing from the port by coach, your journey will take you north, before then heading east towards the chalk downs of the Purbeck Hills, through beautiful countryside of patchwork fields and rolling hills.

After an approximately one-hour drive, your walk will commence and you will enjoy your first glimpse of the Dorset coast with its fine white cliffs. Your guide will lead you down the path that meanders towards Durdle Door. Views of the beautiful natural limestone rock arch can be enjoyed from the top of the cliffs, but for those who are willing, and able, you will have the option to descend the many steps that lead to the beach for a better view of this world-famous geological wonder, arguably the most photographed landmark along the Jurassic Coast.

Following the stop to view Durdle Door, you will retrace your steps and then continue along the South West Coast Path, following the undulating coastline whilst enjoying the beautiful views. Eventually, you will descend to the perfectly formed Lulworth Cove. This natural, horseshoe-shaped harbour is a geologist’s paradise. Its habitat features diverse wildlife and even has its own butterfly species named after it – the Lulworth Skipper.

If time permits, enjoy some free time to take in the views, or perhaps visit the Lulworth Cove Heritage Centre or purchase some refreshments before rejoining your coach for the return journey to Portland.
