Tobermory on Foot
Tobermory, Isle of Mull

on foot
Discover the delights of Tobermory, built as a fishing port in the late 18th century and now the main village on Mull. It is a picture postcard village with brightly painted buildings along the main street to the pier. Tobermory was selected for the BBC’s children’s TV programme ‘Balamory’ because of its beautiful location and multi-coloured houses.
This leisurely 3km (2 mile) walk will take you past Tobermory’s first Power House and along Breadalbane Street – where many of the colourful houses featured in the programme are located. From there, you will make your way to St. Mary’s Well, an ancient holy well dedicated to the Virgin Mary from which the village name originates, Gaelic 'Tobar Mhoire', meaning the ‘well of Mary’.
You will then continue along Argyll Terrace back in towards the village. Along the way you will have the opportunity to see many fascinating sights, including the Parish Church and the granite obelisk war memorial, before heading towards the waterfront and along the picturesque promenade, past Tobermory’s famous whisky distillery and back to the tender landing stage.
Depending on the departure time of your experience, you may wish to spend some time before/after your walk to explore Tobermory independently and to enjoy this special place.
