Western Mull @ Ease

This experience is ideally suited to those of you wishing to see some of the beauty of the Isle of Mull predominantly from the comfort of your midi-coach.

Scotland’s west coast has some of the most beautiful and romantic island retreats in the world, and Mull is one of the best. Mountains rise from the sea to over 914m (3,000 ft), and there are deserted sandy beaches, old woodlands and fertile sheltered valleys where tender plants thrive and waterfalls tumble among the rocks. On this experience, you will enjoy a scenic drive around western Mull which encapsulates some of the finest scenery the island has to offer.

Having tendered ashore, you will embark on your mini coach in the car park at the edge of Tobermory, the ‘capital of Mull.’ Founded as a fishing village in 1789 on the site of an earlier Christian settlement, Tobermory has one of the most sheltered harbours in Scotland, tucked behind a headland. The village clusters around a small bay, with terraced houses colour-washed in reds, pinks, yellows, and blues rising from the harbour up a steep wooded bank.

Your journey will take you west along a twisting, single-track road with hairpin bends towards Dervaig, a small, picturesque village at the north end of Mull at the head of Loch a’Chumhainn. Here you will make a short photo stop.

You continue around the northwest of Mull to your next photo stop at the picturesque sandy beach of Calgary Bay, backed by low dunes and the machair or low-lying grassy plains, It is considered by many to be the finest beach in Scotland. On a clear day, you can enjoy views of the Islands of Tiree and Coll.

From here your journey will take you through Achnacraig towards Aros Castle, a ruined 13th century castle overlooking the Sound of Mull, then back to Tobermory along the east coast.
