Music, Dance & Belfast History
Belfast

by coach & on foot
This experience will give you a fascinating insight into the history and culture associated with Belfast. You will drive through the capital city of Northern Ireland, taking in some of the landmarks which have played a large part during the city’s industrial and turbulent history, to the vibrant city it has transformed into today. Enjoy the tour guide commentary as you pass landmark buildings such as the Albert Memorial Clock, City Hall and the Grand Opera House designed by prolific theatre architect Frank Matcham, dating back to 1895. You will also pass the Queen’s University established by Queen Victoria in 1845, along with sights of Belfast including the famous political wall murals which depict the past and present political and religious divisions.
Following your introduction to the city, you will make a stop at a local pub and enjoy a refreshing drink of choice, including beer, wine or a soft drink before you are joined by a local entertainer & storyteller of tales who will guide you on a compelling experience through the backstreets of Belfast. You will proceed to spend approximately one-hour in the delightful company of traditional Irish dancers and musicians. The history of Irish dancing is a very important part of Irish heritage and culture, alongside traditional Irish music. In the past few decades, Irish dancing has seen a huge revival thanks to the worldwide success and popularity of ‘Riverdance;’ performed at the Eurovision Song Contest. You’ll also enjoy 'sean-nós,' an older style of Irish céili dancing, whilst watching the entertainers sing and play local melodies and street songs that would have once been heard in the shipyards, mills and markets of old. Relish in the dancing, stories, songs and music played on instruments such as the harp, uilleann pipes, bodhrán, guitar, flute, fiddle, concertina and whistles. There is something special for everyone in this unique cultural experience that is "The Story of Hidden Belfast.”
You’ll then re-join your coach for the return journey to Belfast Port and your awaiting ship.
