Mountain Scenery & Refreshments
Klaksvik

by coach & on foot
Joining your coach and leaving Klaksvik, your journey takes you through the 6.2km (4 miles) long subsea tunnel, 150m (492ft) beneath sea level between Klaksvik and Leirvik.
Your drive passes Eidi and crosses the mountains towards Gjogv. On the way, you will catch sight of ‘The Giant and The Witch’, two very distinctive sea stacks. You also pass the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Saettaratindur at 880m (2,887ft). In Gjogv, you will see a 183 metre-long (600ft) gorge, which is a natural harbour for fishing boats. There will be a short stop to enjoy some complimentary refreshments.
You return to Klaksvik via the mountain road down towards the village of Funningur, where you will make a photo stop. It is said that Grimur Kamban, believed to be the first settler in the Faroe Islands at the beginning of the 9th century, lived in this village. This story is told in the ‘Freyinga Saga’, the story of how the Faroe Islanders were converted to Christianity and became part of Norway, written in 1200AD.
Following the photo stop, you will head back to the ship in Klaksvik.
