Flowers & Fjords @ Ease
Isafjordur

by bus & on foot
This experience is ideally suited to those wishing to see some of the highlights of Ísafjörður and its surroundings, predominantly from the comfort of a coach.
You will enjoy breathtaking views of a dramatic landscape shaped by glaciers over centuries. This experience takes you on an adventurous journey through the Vestfjarðagöng mountain tunnel and across the magnificent Westfjords mountains to the fjords of Dýrafjörður and Önundarfjörður.
Your first stop is Skrúður, home to Iceland’s first botanical garden, founded in 1905 as a teaching garden. It was the vision of the local minister and school principal at Núpur, who created the garden to teach students botany, and subsequently introduce a more vegetable-rich diet, and explore which plants could thrive in the sub-Arctic climate of the Westfjords. The garden remains a beautiful reflection of his passion for cultivation, with a surprisingly wide variety of plants flourishing despite the challenging conditions.
You will then continue to the peaceful village of Flateyri, situated on a gravel spit and developed around the shark-fishing industry in the mid-19th century. During your visit, you will stop at the local church to enjoy a short musical recital. Your guide will then lead you on a gentle walk along the main street to a small traditional bookshop housed in the original merchant’s home, followed by a visit to a local café to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a traditional Icelandic pastry.
Afterwards, you will rejoin your coach for the return drive to Ísafjörður.
