Vikings & Dynjandi Waterfall
Isafjordur

by bus & on foot
This experience offers the perfect combination of scenic drives, natural beauty, waterfalls, and history.
Your first stop will be a visit to the Skálinn Viking Centre, where you will meet locals who have dedicated their lives to learning everything there is to know about the Vikings of Iceland. Key topics include why the Vikings came to Iceland, where they came from, and the materials they used to create their clothing, jewellery, and weapons.
Following an informative introduction to Viking life, you will have the opportunity to become a Viking yourself by dressing in authentic-style clothing, handling replicas of Viking weapons, and tasting bread baked over an open fire. You will then follow in the Vikings’ footsteps on a walk through the village to the ruins of the Old Viking Parliament, known as the Þing. During the Viking Age in Iceland, each local parliament sent representatives to the main parliament, the Alþingi, at Þingvellir. These ruins are among the very few Þing sites in Iceland that have not been built over or are otherwise difficult to identify.
Your journey then continues with a scenic drive to the main natural attraction of the Westfjords region: the breathtaking Dynjandi Waterfall, also known as Fjallfoss. Dynjandi cascades approximately 100m (328ft) and reaches up to 60m (197ft) in width. You may wish to walk the natural uphill trail toward the waterfall for a closer view, to take photographs, and to enjoy the spectacular scenery.
Afterward, you will rejoin your bus for the return drive to Ísafjörður.
