Ísafjörður on Foot
Isafjordur

on foot
“What do people do here all year round?” This is the most common question local guides receive from visitors to the area. This sustainable experience is ideal if you would like a glimpse into the everyday life of Ísafjörður. You will learn about the people and their living conditions, beliefs, and culture, while discovering the history of the town and its key highlights. The people here are what make Ísafjörður a home like no other.
Departing from the pier, your guide will lead you on an orientation walk and introduction to the town.
Ísafjörður is a small town where shops, bakeries, and restaurants primarily serve local needs. You may wish to take note of places you would like to return to and explore later in the day. Keep an eye out for the distinctive wooden houses with corrugated tin roofs, built by fishing merchants during the 18th and 19th centuries.
As your walk continues around Isafjordur you will learn about the local businesses such as the dairy factory and the chocolatier. You will get to sample some of the local products before continuing to the local brewery for a visit.
Dokkan Brugghús is a family-run brewery founded in 2017. Here, you will be able to taste a selection of the beers they produce. The water used in brewing originates in the remote mountains of the Westfjords and is naturally filtered through volcanic lava millions of years old.
Your guided walk will conclude here. You may either return to the pier with your guide or remain in town to explore further at your leisure.
