The Hjørundfjord is a 33km (21 mile) long arm of the Storfjord, located in the Sunnmøre Alps heartland, with pointed mountain peaks that encircle the bay on both sides.

This sightseeing experience takes you along the same striking scenery that was praised and valued so highly by Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany more than a hundred years ago. He was so shocked to hear of the famous fire that ruined more than 800 wooden houses in Ålesund that he sent four ships with people, materials and medicine to help with the recovery effort.

There are several small idyllic villages and isolated farms dotted along the water’s edge. As you travel along this lesser-known fjord, the mountains are a wild and beautiful sight, and often regarded as a national treasure.

The north end of the fjord is 2.5km (1.5 miles) wide, and the deepest point is 441m (1447ft). Hjørundfjord is regarded by many as one of the most beautiful fjords in the world.

Once at the inner end of the fjord, your boat will turn around in front of the iconic Hotel Union Øye and you will sail back to Ålesund. This delightful cruise in such peaceful surroundings is sure to leave you with lasting memories of this spectacular scenery.
