Begin your exploration of Ålesund passing the lively town square, adorned with market stalls, before heading east to view the historic wooden houses. Along the way, pass the Voldsdalen church and Color Line stadium as you ascend Aksla Mountain. Pause at the viewpoint to take in the views of the city, surrounding islands and alpine scenery before reboarding the mini train back down the mountainside.

Pass through the park that marked the end of the catastrophic fire in 1904, and pass by ‘Vallehuset’ – remarkably untouched by the fire and now serving as a museum.

As you descend towards Ålesundet, see residences designed in the Art Nouveau style. Reaching the harbour, the bustling shipping district comes in to view, where fishermen sell their catches directly from their boats. Continue across the small bridge connecting the islands of Nørvøya and Aspøya. This vibrant and colourful section of town, known as Brunholmen, offers a glimpse of history through its architecture and museums.

Finally, navigate the cobblestone streets of Apotekertorget to the pier.
