Kristiansand has a long and interesting history as the central point for trade and commerce in the southern part of Norway. What better way to explore the centre of Kristiansand, with its colourful houses and interesting history, than by joining this guided city walk?

Kristiansand, the capital of the south, was partially destroyed by bombs in 1940 during the Second World War. The reconstruction created a new image for the town, with modern buildings in many different colours.

Your city walk starts from the pier as you follow your guide towards the city centre passing the cathedral and local marketplace. The old part of the town has many characteristic right-angled streets and is known as Kvadraturen in Norwegian. Part of this area is known as Posebyen, which has one of the largest collections of low, wooden houses in Northern Europe. Your guide will explain how a big fire destroyed half of the city houses and you’ll be shown how the locals have managed to rebuild this part of the town.

Following your walk, you will return to the pier with your guide.
