Leirvik is situated between Stavanger and Haugesund in the south, and Bergen to the north. Oil and gas yard-work is the main business of this small community that has produced several oil platforms including the big Troll platform. Leirvik lies on the southern coast of the large island of Stord along the Hardangerfjorden.
Your guided walk starts at the pier and takes you through the centre of Leirvik. During your walk you’ll enjoy a historical journey from bygone days to present, modern day society.
You will visit the local museum, which comprises of ten buildings, including open hearth huts, a farmhouse, schoolhouse, country store and a fisherman’s hut. The museum has permanent exhibitions featuring agriculture, forestry, fishery and coastal industries, life in prehistoric times and a lovely local textiles exhibition.
A visit here will give you an insight into the history and daily life in the region. The town today is modern, with a lively port, small shops, cafes, and a college.
