Stavanger @ Ease
Stavanger, cruise Boknafjord

by coach & on foot
This experience is ideally suited to those wishing to see some of the highlights of Stavanger and its surroundings, predominantly from the comfort of a coach.
Stavanger and the surrounding areas have for centuries played a leading part in Norway's maritime history, from the time when the Viking kings battled in Hafrsfjord, through the period of the steamships up to modern super-tankers. Stavanger is also the most important oil industry city in Norway due to its geographical position.
Departing from the pier, enjoy a sightseeing drive, during which you will learn about the city's rich history as you approach Hafrsfjord, where the Viking King Harald Haarfagre (the Fair-haired) defeated the last of the regional princes in 872 and united the 29 small kingdoms under one crown.
Near the little beach at Moellebukta, an impressive monument has been raised commemorating the battle: Three 10m (32ft) high swords symbolising peace, unity and freedom. Next, enjoy a scenic photostop at Ullandhaug, offering views over the city, fjord and surrounding countryside. Your journey continues past agricultural land, then through the old and newer sections of Stavanger.
Drive past Norway’s oldest cathedral which was built around 1125 by Bishop Reinald of Winchester with the help of British craftsmen. Its striking Romanesque architecture stands as a proud symbol of the city’s medieval heritage.
On your way back to the ship pass through ‘Gamle Stavanger’, the oldest part of the city. Featuring narrow, cobbled lanes and picturesque, traditional wooden houses which date back to the 18th and 19th centuries, this area of the city is considered to be unique, and is considered to be Stavanger’s most important rehabilitation project.
