Historic Aalborg on Foot
Aalborg

on foot
Your walk will begin with a stroll through Virgin Ane Street, a well known street full of pubs and restaurants.
You will continue on to Budolfi Cathedral where you will have a short inside visit.
From here, you will visit the Monastery of the Holy Ghost, a well-preserved medieval establishment that was part of a hospitalier order from France. Learn how it served as a trade hub and welfare institution in the 15th century, providing care to foreign merchants and seafarers.
As you continue you will stroll through the Old Town, discovering the hidden underground ruins of the Grey Friars Monastery, built by Franciscan Friars in the 13th century.
Next up is Jens Bang's Stone House, an impressive Renaissance building that was once the largest private home in Denmark. Admire the ornate architecture whilst your guide tells you about the building's historical significance in Aalborg's trade history.
Your journey continues through Hjelmerstald, a charming neighbourhood filled with beautiful old houses that were once home to the city's poorest citizens. Your guide will explain how this area was once a bustling trade hub for merchants and craftsmen in the Middle Ages.
The final part of your walk is through Aalborg's revitalized waterfront district, where old industrial facilities have been transformed into new and exciting architecture. Admire the stunning Aalborghus Castle, a half-timbered structure built by King Christian III in the 16th century that served as the seat of the King's provincial governors in Northern Europe. Learn about the castle's role in Aalborg's trade history and how it contributed to the city's growth as a centre of commerce in Northern Europe.
Coming to the end of your experience you have the option to return to the ship or you can explore Aalborg at your own leisure for a period of time.
