Departing from the port, your experience immerses you in Danish Viking history. In the heart of Jutland, you will visit Jelling, once a royal monument during the reigns of King Gorm and his son Harald Bluetooth in the 10th century.

Visiting Jelling’s burial mounds, you will see the two massive carved runestones. Both are striking examples of pagan Nordic culture and symbols of Danish history, with one illustrating the move to Danish people’s conversion to Christianity. It is hard to appreciate just how fascinating these stones are until you stand before them.

During a guided walk between mounds, runestones, shipwrecks, and palisades, you will hear the fascinating history of the Viking Kings Gorm and Harald; the Jelling Stones; the creation of Denmark; and the transition to Christianity. In 1994, the church, runestones, and mounds collectively became Denmark’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. In fact, the Jelling monuments are described as Europe's most distinguished monument from the Viking age.

Following this discovery, you will then visit the experience centre Kongernes Jelling – Home of the Viking Kings. Here, you will take a journey back in time and experience 1,000-year-old remains from the Viking age and the reign of Harald Bluetooth. Walk with your guide through the Experience Centre which offers a unique sensory experience that brings to life Denmark’s bloody Viking history. After your Viking experience you will have time to explore further on your own or visit the museum shop for Viking souvenirs.

Once your historical experience is over, re-board your coach for the return drive to the port.
