On the island of Funen, you will find the city of Odense, one of the oldest cities in Denmark and the birthplace of the world-famous fairy tale writer, Hans Christian Andersen. This experience will take you in the footsteps of the famous author as you explore the old town of Odense and see the many places where he left his mark.

Hans Christian Andersen was born in Odense in 1805 and his fairy tales are arguably Denmark's greatest contribution to world culture. Leaving the port, your journey will take you to the Hans Christian Andersen House and museum, where you embark on a surprising and fascinating discovery into the author’s creative universe and his beloved fairy tales. During your visit, you will listen to the commentary on audio-guides, while taking a closer look at the exhibition. The focus is not on Andersen himself, but on the fairy tales he wrote and their meaning. The museum doesn't talk about Hans Christian Andersen, it talks ‘as’ Andersen himself.

Following your visit, your guide will lead you on a walk through the old part of Odense, where Hans Christian Andersen lived, went to school, and worked as a child and young man. You will pass by important landmarks and see beautiful old houses, many of them more than 300 years old and carefully restored to really give you an understanding of life in 19th century Denmark when Andersen lived here.
