Rønne on Foot
Ronne, Bornholm

on foot
Rønne is Bornholm’s main town with approximately 14,000 inhabitants. The oldest part of the town dates from the 1300s. The small, winding, cobblestoned streets are characterised by picturesque hollyhocks, beautiful gardens and 17th century half-timbered houses.
Rønne is best explored on foot, so this sustainable experience does just that. Meeting your guide on the pier, they will lead you through the port. Along the way you will pass local industries reliant on the harbour for its links with the mainland, and onwards towards the town centre.
You will see notable points of interest during your walk, including a memorial of the uprising in 1658 at the spot where Danish freedom fighters shot the Swedish lieutenant governor and returned the island to the ownership of the Danish king. You will also see evidence of the Russian bombing in 1945 that destroyed large areas of the town to force the German Commander to surrender.
Making a visit to Bornholm’s Museum, you will discover prehistoric artifacts including weapons, tools and jewellery. There is also a surprisingly large and varied collection of local items, including clocks and maritime exhibits.
You will pass the beautiful church, originally built by German mariners in the Middle Ages, as well as Denmark’s oldest active theatre dating back to 1823.
Upon completion of the guided element of the experience, you will be given the option of walking back to the cruise pier with your guide, taking the shuttle bus back to the port, or remaining in town to make your own way back independently.
