Bornholm by Bike

This experience provides a wonderful opportunity to explore a portion of Bornholm’s scenic countryside in a sustainable manner, whilst also getting a little exercise.

Setting off from the pier and following your knowledgeable guide, your bike ride will take you through Rønne and out into the countryside following closed railway tracks and small forest pathways. Soon you will arrive at Nyker for a visit, the smallest of Bornholm’s four beautiful and very special round churches. Originally built as fortifications to protect the Island from advancing enemies, they later became used for more peaceful practices.

Your cycle route continues passing fields and farmhouses towards Hasle, located on the coast and where you will make a stop to visit an old smokehouse. Smoking herrings is a very traditional way to preserve fish and is still practised at many smokehouses on Bornholm. During your visit, you’ll learn more about the process and enjoy a taste of smoked herring accompanied by rye bread and a soft drink.

Your return to the pier will include a ride on a vehicle-free, 8km (5-mile) stretch of Bornholm’s 250km (155-mile) network of cycle routes, through the forest of Rønne.
