Klaipeda & the Amber Museum in Palanga

This experience takes you on a short drive to the old town of Klaipeda, where you will enjoy an approximately 45-minute walk with your guide. Klaipeda is one of the most historically rich Lithuanian cities, which still exudes German spirit with its architectural style and winding cobbled streets.

Back on the coach, you will travel towards the seaside resort of Palanga, with its wide golden beaches surrounded by sand dunes and pine forests.

On arrival, you will walk through the Botanical Park: part of the Amber Museum, which is home to over 150 species of trees and shrubs created by the French landscape architect Edouard Andre. Housed in an elegant 19th-century palace, the Amber Museum features thousands of amber pieces including one of Europe's largest artefacts, the Amber Sun. Throughout the museum, informative displays explain amber's origins and the places where it can be found. During your visit, you will see examples of the iconic fossilised tree resin, some of which feature unique inclusions of ancient insects and bits of plants, and view beautiful jewellery created with the world-famous ‘Baltic Gold’.

After walking back through the park, you will rejoin your coach for a short drive to the centre of Palanga, close to the beautiful neo-Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Heading towards the city centre, you will notice the traditional wooden houses and small shops selling beautiful pieces of amber. Your guide will lead you on a walk along the famous Basanavicius Boulevard towards the sea bridge: approximately 900m (984 yards) one way. You will then have some free time to explore the boutiques, cafes and bars independently before rejoining your coach for the return journey back to Klaipeda.
