Picturesque Gouda & Cheese Tasting
Rotterdam, cruise River Nieuwe Maas

by coach & on foot
This experience takes you from the pier in Rotterdam, on a journey along the Ijssel River enjoying typical Dutch landscapes before arriving at the cheese farm 'Hoogerwaard".
At the 17th century farm, you will be able to see how traditional Gouda cheese is made according to a centuries-old recipe. During your visit, all different steps of cheese making will be explained. There will also be a cheese tasting during which you can enjoy three different kinds of cheeses.
After this there will be a short time to walk around the quaint long-established farm so you can see where the cheese is made or maybe take the opportunity to purchase some of these delicacies. Any purchases of cheese must be consumed during your cruise and cannot be brought back to the UK.
Continue your experience to Gouda City, a picture-postcard version of a little Dutch town. Upon arriving, you’ll travel down Gouda’s narrow cobbled streets and make a photo stop at St. John’s Church. Founded in 1280 the church is dedicated to John the Baptist, Gouda’s patron saint. Rebuilt in the 16th century after a disastrous fire, the church is famous for its hauntingly beautiful stained-glass windows. Of the 72 windows that display biblical and historical scenes, 61 date back to the 16th century, while at 123metres (403ft) long, this makes St. John’s the largest cross-shaped church in the Netherlands.
