Malmö & Malmöhus Castle
Malmo

by coach & on foot
Your experience begins with a city sightseeing drive, pausing for a photo stop at Malmö’s most famous landmark: the 190m (623ft) high apartment building ‘Turning Torso’, designed by the world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, twisting towards the sky. The ‘Turning Torso’ is located in Västra Hamnen (Western Harbour) - a former shipyard which is now being transformed to a modern residential area. During the sightseeing drive, you will also pass other main sights including Gustav Adolfs Square, The Queens Square, the impressive Post Office building and Malmö Live - the new concert hall.
Your journey continues through the beautiful Castle Park (Kungsparken) passing by the Town Library, designed by the world-famous Danish architect Henning Larsen, as well as Malmö’s casino.
Having become more acquainted with the city, you will head for Malmö Old Town where your guide will take you for a stroll along the Stortorget (Great Square). Here you will find buildings dating from the 16th century, including the Town Hall, Jörgen Kocks’ House, Malmö’s oldest pharmacy and the county Governor’s mansion.
Your walk continues to the nearby Lilla Torg (Small Square) – a picturesque square with lots of small restaurants and pubs. During the walk a photo stop will be made to Sankt Petri Church, one of Malmö’s oldest buildings boasting a 98 m (322ft tall spire) and interesting vault paintings.
Rejoining the coach, a short drive will bring you to your next stop, Malmöhus Castle. Originally built as a citadel, Malmöhus is the oldest remaining Renaissance Castle in Scandinavia. The 16th and 17th centuries saw the heyday of the castle when it was a royal residence for the Danish kings. Among the many guests who stayed here was the adventurous James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell, third husband of the Scottish Queen Mary Stuart, who was imprisoned here for five years in the 1570s.
Following your visit, you will rejoin your coach for the return drive to the port.
