Visby & West Gotland Coast
Visby, Gotland

by coach & on foot
Departing from the port, you will travel southward through the agricultural districts of Gotland, Sweden’s largest island and a province within the Baltic Sea. Your first stop will be a visit to one of the 92 medieval churches for which Gotland is famous.
Following this, you will continue your journey passing through small local communities to Gnisvärd, a picturesque fishing village with a natural harbour. Close to the fishing village, there are some ancient stone graves shaped like ships. The graves are thought to date from the Bronze Age between 1000 and 400 BC, providing a Viking-like burial-space, and were thought to carry the dead to the afterlife. There are also two stone circles and an even older Stone Age grave nearby.
You will continue your drive to Gallows Hill where you will catch a breath-taking view of the sea. A stop will be made for you to take photos and savour the scenery of this place.
Rejoining your coach, your next stop will be the walled city of Visby - nick-named ‘City of Roses and Ruins’. Visby, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the best-preserved medieval city in Scandinavia, is an outstanding example of a Northern European walled Hanseatic town that has uniquely preserved its townscape and extremely valuable buildings. The town wall, dating from the 13th century, is almost 3.2km (2 miles) long and encircles old stone houses, churches and streets.
Following your guided walk through Visby, you will rejoin the coach for the short drive back to the port, or you may choose to remain in town and make your own way back to the ship.
