Royan is located on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, and your journey will begin with a short bus transfer to the ferry port in Le Verdon on the left bank. Capital of the Cote de Beaute, Royan is one of the main French Atlantic coastal resort towns and has five beaches, a marina for over 1,000 boats, and an active fishing port.

Totally destroyed by the Allied air bombings in 1945, the city of Royan has become a test site for modern architecture and urbanism. Today it is considered a unique example of architecture from the 1950s. This can be especially attributed to its Notre Dame cathedral, covered Trocadero market, and numerous villas of the Belle Epoque.

After taking the ferry, crossing the Gironde estuary, you will embark on a guided walk of the city. Discover the beautiful cathedral, and then enjoy some free time maybe at the food market, elected France’s second best in 2018, or stroll along the promenade and sit with a coffee and watch the world go by.

Following your free time, meet your guide and walk back to the ferry for your return to Le Verdon.
