Cephalonia @ Ease

Argostoli, Cephalonia

Cephalonia @ Ease
  • Shopping time included

by bus & on foot

This experience is ideally suited to those wishing to see some of the highlights of Cephalonia, predominantly from the comfort of a coach.

Begin your exploration of this island with a short drive from Argostoli to Katavothres to observe one of the many geological attractions of Cephalonia. Witness the seawater disappearing in to sinkholes close to the water’s edge. These so-called ‘swallow-holes’ boast constant water flow, and were once used to turn the wheels of sea mills to generate power. The singular water wheel you see today is a replica of the ones destroyed in an earthquake in 1953.

Continue to the Monastery of Agios Andreas, an important religious and pilgrimage site on the island which offers an insight into Cephalonia’s layered past, including views of some of the fortified settlements that shaped the island.

From here, enjoy the passing scenery as you continue towards Sami, a charming waterfront town. Some free time here allows you to enjoy the welcoming local atmosphere. Perhaps take a gentle stroll along the wide paved streets, admire the Venetian-influenced buildings that reflect the rich heritage of the island, or browse the shops and cafes overlooking the bustling port

Rejoining your coach, depart Sami and travel along the stunning coastline, perhaps glimpsing the neighbouring island of Ithaca across the strait. Pass through the village of Aghia Efthimia at the base of Cephalonia’s northernmost peninsula, and pause at a viewpoint overlooking Myrtos to enjoy views of the beautiful crescent shaped beach.

On the way back to the port, a final photo stop will be made at one of Cephalonia’s most notable and historical landmarks – the stone De Bosset Bridge, located in Argostoli. It is the longest stone bridge across the sea in Europe, measuring 690m (2264ft) in length, connecting Argostoli to the opposite coast.
