One of the most fascinating aspects of Cephalonian culture is the island’s devotion to preserving ancient traditions. Journey to the spiritual and historical heart of the island during this insightful experience.

Religion is a very important part of Greek culture, and this can easily be seen from the hundreds of churches and monasteries on the island. Your experience begins with a scenic drive to the revered Monastery of St. Gerasimos, one of the island’s most important pilgrimage sites. Travelling through the picturesque villages of Razata, Fragata and Valsamata, you’ll arrive at this peaceful monastic complex dedicated to the island’s patron saint – protector of those suffering from mental afflictions. The holy relics of St. Gerasimos are preserved here with great devotion, and a visit offers a deeply meaningful insight into Cephalonia’s religious traditions.

Rejoining your coach, continue to the little village of Troianata, nestled amongst lush vegetation and offering lovely hillside views towards the distant ruins of St. George’s Castle, once the island’s fortified capital.

Your next stop is the solemn Acqui Division Memorial, commemorating the Italian soldiers executed by German forces in 1943. It stands as an important reminder of Cephalonia’s wartime history, and the events that deeply shaped local memory.

As you make your way back to Argostoli, enjoy beautiful vistas across the island. On arrival to the vibrant capital, join your guide for a walk through the town’s central district to the main square. Here you will visit the Museum of History and Folklore, showcasing artefacts that reflect the island’s traditions and everyday life across various eras.

Before returning to the port, enjoy some free time to explore Lithostrato, Argostoli’s bustling pedestrian boulevard filled with shops and cafes. If you wish to spend a little longer soaking up the local atmosphere, you can remain in the centre and return to the ship on foot, otherwise, rejoin your coach at the pre-arranged meeting point and time for the short drive back to the port.
