Highlights of Rhodes Old Town
  • Shopping time included

by coach & on foot

On this experience you’ll explore the highlights of one of the best preserved medieval-built cities in Europe – Rhodes Old Town, located at the northern tip of the Greek island of the same name.

Departing from the port, your experience begins with a short drive to Mount Smith where a photo stop will be made to admire the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, along with panoramic views of Rhodes and the surrounding scenery.

Your journey continues back to the city where you disembark the coach and proceed on foot. Following your guide on a walk through the impressive D’Amboise Gate, you will be at the highest point of the medieval city with its narrow cobblestoned streets.

A visit will be made to The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, also known as the Castello. It was originally built in the 15th century, then rebuilt by the Italians after it had been destroyed by an explosion in 1856. The interior of the palace is decorated with fantastic mosaics dating back to Roman Times and originating from other islands of the archipelago.

Following your visit, your guided walk continues along the narrow, steep and cobbled Street of the Knights, which still exudes an aura of nobility to this day. You will see the many ‘Inns of the Knights of Seven Languages’, comprised of elegant Gothic buildings where the Knights of the Order of St. John and the pilgrims heading to Jerusalem could stay according to their country of origin. Admire the Gothic architecture, arched windows, terrace roofs and flat honey-coloured facades.

Here you will have approximately one hour of free time to explore at leisure. Browse for a souvenir of your visit or maybe find somewhere to relax, enjoy a drink and soak up the atmosphere of this historic city centre.

At the agreed time and meeting place, if you wish to be transported the short distance back to the port, re-join your guide and coach. For those wishing to remain in the city, you are free to return to the ship by foot when you are ready to do so.
