The Archaeological Site of Nora

From departing the pier and joining a bus with your local tour guide, you will be taken on an orientation expedition through Cagliari. Your bus will travel by the Basilica of Bonaria and you’ll have an opportunity to stop and take photos at Monte Urpinu. Admire the view of Gulf of Cagliari from the hill above, with the 8km (5-mile) Poetto Beach and the lagoon of Molentargius stretching out far.

You will then continue to drive along the south-western coast of Sardinia. Passing St. Gilla's lagoon and the homonymous saline, you will arrive at the Archaeological Site of Nora

The site of Nora is embedded with rich history backdating centuries. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 9th century BC, Nora enjoys a scenic location on a promontory dominated by a 16th century tower. This ancient city once had two harbors, one that sheltered from the west winds and the other from the Mistral. Nora had once been a Carthaginian location which eventually becoming a Roman town and one of the most important commercial towns of the Western Mediterranean in ancient times. Today the most easily visible sights to behold are the remains of a Carthaginian warehouse, as well as the Roman ruins of beautiful mosaics, temples, patrician villas, baths and a theatre. Almost all the remains left are completely intact, dating from the time of the Empire.
To conclude this experience, you will rejoin your bus to make the return journey back to the port.
