This experience explores the historical heart of Syracuse – Ortigia; joined to the main island by three bridges. It is known as the 'old town,' brimming with over two thousand years of history.

Departing the pier, your guide will lead you on a walk through the Old Town whose narrow streets are lined with old, baroque-style houses with charismatic balconies.

A visit will be made to the baroque-style cathedral which was built over the remains of the Doric Temple of Minerva. Inside the cathedral, you’ll see 12 undamaged Doric columns and a magnificent painting by Antonello da Messina.

Following your visit, your walk continues to the picturesque Arethusa Fountain, thought to be the mythical spring of the nymph Arethusa. Shortly before the Battle of Aboukir, Horatio Nelson was enchanted by the fountain on his stop here. After restocking his fleet, he envisioned this would bring a definite victory.

From here, your walk continues past several 15th and 16th century aristocratic palaces. Your walk will also include Piazza Pancali and Piazza Archimede with the Fountain of Diana, amongst other important sites.

A short amount of free time will be included in Ortigia's main and most elegant shopping district, before your guide leads you back to the ship.
