Ancient Greek Archaeological Site of Segesta

This experience explores the archaeological site of Segesta.

Departing from the port, an approximately 1h15min journey to Segesta will take you through Trapani, past the city’s famous salt pans, and inland to the ancient city site. Segesta was one of the major cities of the Elymian people.

Upon arrival, your guide will lead you on a walk along the path that leads to the site’s most iconic remains – the Doric Temple. The temple is thought to have been built around 420 BCE and is deemed the best surviving example of Doric architecture in Europe. Several components suggest the temple was never actually finished. Marvel at the 36 remarkably intact majestic columns.

Descending back to the coach park, you will then join a small bus that acts as a shuttle service to another of the city’s most famous structures, the Greek/Roman Theatre constructed between the late 4th and early 3rd century BCE. The theatre represents one of the best-preserved examples of ancient theatrical architecture in Italy and offers stunning panoramic views across the Gulf of Castellamare from its location on the slopes of Monte Barbaro.

Having transferred back to the coach park by shuttle bus, rejoin your coach for the return drive to Trapani.
