Departing from the pier, your journey takes you through the centre of Funchal before climbing steeply out of town along a winding road from which there are spectacular views over the harbour.

At 550m (1,677ft) you’ll pass through the village of Monte driving further up through eucalyptus and mimosa trees to Terreiro da Luta. Continuing a steady climb, mountain views begin to open out just before reaching Poiso Pass at 1,413m (4,308ft). From here, the views open out considerably on both sides until the road comes to an end at the summit of Pico do Arieiro 1,818m (5,937ft); a vantage point from which there are magnificent views on a clear day.

Return to Poiso Pass where the road winds round and a stop will be made at the Santo da Serra Golf Course, where tea or coffee and a piece of cake will be served. Your journey continues, descending the slopes to Camoes Pequeno where a short stop will be made to enjoy views of the Machico Valley.

The experience then returns to Funchal and back to the pier.
