This experience explores the coastal village of Camara de Lobos, enjoys views from Cabo Girao, and visit’s Funchal’s Farmer’s Market.

Departing from the pier, your journey takes you west of Funchal, passing through the hotel and residential areas of the town. Winding your way along the coast, you will soon reach the village of Camara de Lobos – ‘the sea wolves’ lair’, a picturesque fishing village once painted by Sir Winston Churchill. Here, you will enjoy some free time to explore the narrow streets lined with white-washed houses with red-tile roofs, and the waterfront area where you may choose to find somewhere to purchase some refreshments, relax and watch the world go by.

Rejoining your coach, your journey continues up the mountains, passing the vineyards of Estreito de Camara Lobos, one of the most important wine growing regions of the island. The steep valleys offer good examples of the terraced cultivation seen throughout Madeira. To reach Cabo Girao, you will pass through pine woods and eucalyptus forest.

Cabo Girao is the second highest sea cliff in the world, and the highest in Europe, rising 580m (1903ft) from the Atlantic Ocean. The viewpoint has a suspended glass platform known as the ‘skywalk’, and is one of Madeira’s most visited, and certainly most photographed, tourist attractions. Here you will enjoy some free time to enjoy the incredible views along the coast, over Funchal, and out over the distant horizon.

Next, you will return to the centre of Funchal for a visit to the Farmer’s Market. Here you can witness locals going about their daily business as they shop for fish, tropical fruits, vegetables and flowers. Here, you will sample the wares of a Madeiran artisan chocolatier and enjoy some free time to explore the market at leisure before rejoining your coach for the return drive to the pier.
