You are fortunate that the date your cruise calls to Funchal is during their annual Carnival season. It also happens that you will be in port during what is considered the highlight of the Carnival festivities – the Allegorical Parade! Booking this experience will provide you with a reserved seat in one of the grand stands along the Avenida Sa Carneiro, in the heart of Funchal, close to the start of the parade route.

Depending on the ship’s berth, there could be a walk of up to about 800m (2624ft) around to the allocated seating area. Having found your seat, settle down and soak up the atmosphere as you anticipate the start of the parade. You will then be treated to the vibrant Madeira Carnival, famous for its parade of colourful floats, dazzling costumes, music and party atmosphere.

Following this uplifting experience, you will walk or dance your way back to the ship’s berth.
