Gijon Highlights & Cider

This experience will introduce you to the highlights of Gijon and to the traditional method of producing cider.

Departing from the pier, you will enjoy a drive towards the historical city of Gijon as your guide enlightens you on the history of the Asturias region.

Arriving at the city centre, you will disembark from the coach and follow your guide on a leisurely walk around the charming Old Quarter. During your stroll, you will pass a number of important sites, including the Revillagigedo Palace, the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Statue of King Pelayo, to name a few. Your walk will continue uphill to the top of Cerro de Santa Catalina Park to admire the unique monument named ‘Eulogy of the Horizon’ and marvel at the beautiful view over the Bay of Biscay.

Rejoining your coach, your journey continues with a scenic drive along San Lorenzo Beach to your next photo stop – Laboral University. This magnificent building is Asturias’s most important architectural work of the 20th century, and also one of the largest buildings in Spain.

Your experience concludes with a visit to a typical ‘Llagar Asturiano’, where you will learn about the process of producing the traditional local cider. Following this, you can indulge in a selection of local tapas, accompanied by a glass of cider during a traditional ‘espicha’ – a lively feast typically enjoyed by Asturians when celebrating the opening of a cider vat for the first time.

Fully refreshed, you will rejoin your coach for the return drive to the port.
