Traditional Asturias
Gijon

by coach & on foot
The Asturias region of Spain has its own language, culture and cuisine, some of which will be explored on this experience.
Departing from the pier, relax and enjoy the passing scenery as an approximately 45-minute drive will take you inland to Los Caserinos, a typical Asturian farm that produces artisanal and high-quality dairy products. Here, you will enjoy a guided visit to learn firsthand how a certified organic farm operates. You will be able to see some of the animals, including native Asturian breeds. You will learn more about the production process for their cheese and other dairy products, and also visit their small artisanal cider press with over 250-years of history. Your visit culminates with a tasting of a variety of cheeses, rice pudding, and a sample of cider. The farm also has a shop where you can purchase cheeses and other products. Any purchases of cheese must be consumed during your cruise and cannot be brought back to the UK.
Following your visit, your journey continues to the coast where you will stop to visit Tazones, listed as one of the ‘Most Beautiful Villages in Spain’ since 2019. This is the place where the young King Charles I initially set foot on Spanish soil in 1517. Today, the village is known for its fishing and tourism activities. Following a guided introduction, enjoy some free time to soak up the atmosphere and perhaps purchase some refreshments.
Rejoining your coach, you will be transported back to Gijon.
