Santander on Foot & Tapas

on foot

Discover the history and traditions of Santander with this experience which is a perfect mixture of culture and gastronomy!

Departing on foot with your local guide, you will explore some of the highlights of Santander. You will pass by the lovely Pereda Gardens, named after 19th century Cantabrian writer José María de Pereda whose seminal work ‘Escenas Montañesa’ is illustrated in bronze and stone here. As you continue, you will pass the impressive Bank of Santander original headquarters, built in 1875 and whose façade is crowned by statues representing the arts, culture, commerce and navigation.

The experience continues as you arrive at the first tapas bar, ‘La Casa del Indiano,’ where some delicious pinchos (tapas) will await you, accompanied by a glass of beer, wine or a soft drink. As you make your way to the next location you will pass the Church of St. Lucía which was built in 1868. You will arrive at the next tapas venue the ‘Bodega El Riojano’, an ancient cellar of 1940 which still retains the wood smell in its beams and barrels. Delight your palate with some more tapas and a drink at this traditional restaurant in town, and then keep on exploring the city.

Your last location will be at ‘El Cachalote’ for your final tasting. After discovering Santander and tasting some of its culture, you will leave satisfied as you head back to the ship through Perda Gardens.
